The Loretta James Band - Blues, Soul, R&B
Born into a musical family, Loretta James preferred playing outdoors with other children to her father's enforced music-listening lessons. She ignored that part of her heritage until a few years ago when friends chided her into singing publicly. Slowly, she found her voice at age 44. Locating band members was tougher, but the current lineup shares her strict vision for regular rehearsals, tight performances and, eventually, producing a CD to "make their sound" in the world. James plans to record in the fall.
Quote: "My guitar player would tell you that this is a hard band to be in," James says, "because we're not doing Chicago blues, we're not doing West Coast blues, we're not doing Delta blues, we're not doing soul music, we're not doing jazz. We're doing a little bit of all of it. We're just doing music from the heart."
